About

I'm Beatrix Hatcher, an independent illustrator and designer based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Drawing inspiration from modernist thinking and graphic design, I balance structure with spontaneity through bold, geometric compositions and a confident use of colour and texture. I approach each project with care and clarity, making thoughtful decisions at every stage to translate complex ideas into a distinctive, playful visual language.

I’m primarily focused on editorial and publishing projects, but I also work more broadly on creative briefs that communicate ideas clearly and creatively. I’ve illustrated both fiction and non-fiction books for children, including the Waterstones Prize-shortlisted I Am Not A Prince (Hachette Children’s) and two titles for Usborne; See Inside AI and Astronomy for Beginners.

When I’m not at my desk, you'll likely find me rummaging through charity shops for Hornsea pottery, getting stuck into a craft project, or hiking through the Scottish hills.

Beatrix has been a pleasure to work with, consistently delivering thought-provoking illustrations that showcase her keen attention to character details. Her work brings delight and personality to corporate topics.

Beatrix has turned my rough scribbles and ideas into beautiful illustrations, adding style and life to even the most technical of references. I could always rely on her to meet tight deadlines.

We just received our latest illustration from Bea, and it was beyond what we expected—absolutely awesome work. As always, Bea is such a pleasure to work with.
