I'm Beatrix Hatcher, an independent illustrator and designer based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Drawing inspiration from modernist thinking and graphic design, I balance structure with spontaneity through bold, geometric compositions and a confident use of colour and texture. I approach each project with care and clarity, making thoughtful decisions at every stage to translate complex ideas into a distinctive, playful visual language.
I’m primarily focused on editorial and publishing projects, but I also work more broadly on creative briefs that communicate ideas clearly and creatively. I’ve illustrated both fiction and non-fiction books for children, including the Waterstones Prize-shortlisted I Am Not A Prince (Hachette Children’s) and two titles for Usborne; See Inside AI and Astronomy for Beginners.
When I’m not at my desk, you'll likely find me rummaging through charity shops for Hornsea pottery, getting stuck into a craft project, or hiking through the Scottish hills.
